ENVIRONMENT CHAMPION - COMMUNITY PROGRAMME
Background
Over the years, NEA has trained many grassroots volunteers in dengue prevention and they have worked closely with us in promoting dengue prevention awareness amongst their fellow residents and friends. In order to address the increasing interest of these volunteers in improving their knowledge and carrying out initiatives on other environmental issues, the Environment Champions Community programme was developed and launched in 2008.

Role-playing to gain confidence in conducting the home energy audit.
The Environment Champions, Community (ECC) aims to train community volunteers in other environment issues like climate change, waste minimization, public cleanliness, and, energy efficiency. The ECC programme will equip community volunteers with knowledge and good understanding of key environment issues so that they, together with their families, can adopt environmentally friendly lifestyle and play a lead role in helping to address environmental issues within their neighborhoods.
Training/Workshops ( Please note that the ECC Programme is currently under Review)
ECCs will attend at least two of the following modules:
(i) Dengue Prevention
(ii) Was Minimisation/Recycling
(iii) Energy Efficiency
(iv) Public Cleanliness
(iv) Litter Free
After which, they will train fellow volunteers and interested residents on the importance of taking ownership of the environment in which they live through activities like Home Energy Audit, Dengue Prevention outreach efforts like house visits and exhibitions, estate recycling activities etc with the support of NEA.

Some comments on the Home Energy Audit Module from our ECCs

“The training was interesting and fun. We need to put what we learn into real life experience.”
“ The training was useful as it will definitely help the grassroots leaders to convince residents to do their part in saving energy and money.”
