The Man behind the Music
Following the success of "Let's Make Our World the Most Beautiful Home", the National Environment Agency has launched yet another "musically driven" initiative.
The
"Eco Music Challenge 2010" is an online song-writing competition, which provides a platform for young and talented individuals to express their appreciation and support for nature.

The winning entry came from Rafaee Mahmood for his rendition of "Heaven on Earth".
EnviroVibes caught up with the 23-year-old, who spoke about the competition and his inspiration. |
1. What prompted you to join the Eco Music Challenge contest?
I had asked my girlfriend to participate in the competition. It was later during the production of the song that I came into the picture. The concept and music were entirely her idea. I helped out with the lyrics and arrangement of the song.
2. Tell us something about the title "Heaven on Earth"
It is meant to remind us that the Earth was once pure and untainted and how we have caused a great deal of damage to her. It is meant to encourage listeners to make a change, so that we can make the Earth a heavenly place once again.
3. What do you think is unique about your song?
The orchestration is certainly unique. We have incorporated the Cello, Flute, Piano and the Bodhran, a traditional Irish drum. This blend makes the sound and acoustic interesting. Incidentally, my wind chimes and wave drum were both homemade with recycled materials.
4. Has this competition changed your life? If so, how?
We certainly did not expect it but we are very happy that we won the competition. A big thank you to all those who have contributed to making the journey a fun experience.
During the course of the competition, I realised that we have done a lot of damage to the Earth. So now, I am also making an effort to be Eco-Friendly by saving water and electricity, and by making use of public transport.
