Central Singapore Environmental Regional Workshop 2012 - Let's S.W.I.T.C.H. !
"Let's S.W.I.T.C.H.!". That was the theme for the 8th Central Singapore Environmental Regional Workshop 2012.
Held at Environment Building on 17th March, "S.W.I.T.C.H." stands for Simple Ways I Take to Change My Habits. It is a joint programme by Central Singapore CDC (CS CDC) and NEA Central Regional Office (CRO) which aims to:
- Educate residents on energy efficiency and ways to change their lifestyle habits to reduce energy consumption
- Install energy saving light bulbs for 4,000 low income households in Central Singapore District by 2014
Now in its eighth consecutive year, the Environmental Regional Workshop provides a platform for grassroots leaders and partners in Central Singapore District to update themselves on the latest environmental programmes and come up with environmental work plans for their constituencies.
Skit on "Let's S.W.I.T.C.H."
A total of 152 participants, comprising key grassroots leaders from 23 constituencies, representatives from schools, together with GOH Dr Lily Neo, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, attended the workshop. They were the first to witness the latest instalment to Central Singapore's existing Multimedia Outreach Programme – the "Let's S.W.I.T.C.H" skit. Infused with tips on energy efficiency, the song-and-dance skit was well received by the participants. A total of six skits on various environmental themes (dengue prevention, recycling, anti-littering, personal and food hygiene, climate change and energy efficiency) were conceptualised by NEA CRO and CS CDC. These skits can be used for outreach during community events in Central Singapore District.

Environmental Crossword Puzzle
Armed with information booklets with information on key environmental programmes produced by NEA CRO, participants were invited to play an environment-themed crossword puzzle. They had to find answers to environmental questions related to topics such as dengue prevention, anti-littering, recycling as well as energy saving, and single out the answers among a mishmash of alphabets.

'What We Have Achieved Together' and 'Climate Change' Video Screening
A video to showcase the environmental efforts and achievement in Central Singapore was also screened during the workshop. This was followed by a climate change video produced by CCPD to educate participants on the importance of addressing climate change in Singapore and how the public can do their part to help fight climate change.
Discussion and Sharing of Environmental Work Plan
Grassroots leaders were also invited to share their past experience and the new work plan of implementing various environmental programmes. Keen constituencies benefitted from learning the pitfalls and success working models, giving them more confidence in implementing the programs. All 23 constituencies submitted their environmental work plans at the end of workshop.
