REVIEW 1 - 30 August 2010
1. About two thirds of Singapore received above average rainfall in August 2010. The highest rainfall of 280 mm to 310 mm (65% to 90% above average) fell over central parts of the island around Bukit Timah. Rainfall was lowest in eastern region around East Coast Park and western region around Tuas where 80 mm to 110 mm (35% to 60% below average) was recorded.

Weather Outlook: 1 - 15 September 2010

Weak to moderate Southwest Monsoon conditions are expected to prevail over the Singapore and the surrounding region in the next fortnight. The winds over Singapore are expected to blow predominantly from the southeast or southwest.

During the period, short-duration showers with thunder are expected on 5 to 6 days mainly in the late morning and afternoon. In addition, widespread showers with thunder and gusty winds due to "Sumatra" squalls are also likely to occur on 1 to 2 days in the predawn hours and early morning.

Rainfall for the first fortnight of September 2010 is likely to be near average.
