Introduction
Due to our limited land area and the high rate of waste generation typical of urbanized societies, solid waste has a visible impact on the state of the environment. It presents a threat to public health, water quality and even the eco-system.
The huge amount of municipal refuse generated daily demands a highly efficient system to manage its collection and disposal. Waste collection is highly regulated industry in Singapore and the public waste collection system covers all households, trade premises and public places.
With limited resources available for waste disposal, NEA's policy for waste management necessitates the incineration of all incinerable waste that are not recovered, reused or recycled.
Visit Objectives
From the visits, participants will:
1. Be aware of the problems and constraints which Singapore faces in the management of our solid waste.
2. Learn and understand the importance of a well-managed waste disposal system in maintaining a clean city-state in the development of an efficient waste disposal system, and the measures needed to meet future challenges.
3. Experience the entire waste management process firsthand though a comprehensive guided tour.
