“Litter-Free” Hawker Centers
"Litter-Free"Hawker Centers
The "Litter-Free" Hawker Centres is a community outreach programme which engages various stakeholders of a hawker center such as its' patrons, stallholders, managing agents and cleaning contractors to jointly keep it clean and free of litter.
On 1st June 2006, Dr Yaccob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, launched the "Litter-Free" Hawker Centers programme, as the 1st of a series of programmes, which are targeted at premises prone to litter. This was the initiative by NEA in enhancing the current "Singapore, Litter-Free" Campaign.
To tackle the littering problem in Hawker Centers, NEA is executing a multi-pronged approach involving more commitment from stakeholders, tightened cleansing regimes and improving disposal facilities. Other managing agents such as town councils, together with NEA, will complement these efforts through regular inspections and feedback sessions with the hawkers in reviewing the cleanliness of the hawker centers and their hygiene standards.
With everyone taking ownership of his/her litter and keep Hawker Centers litter-free, public can now look forward to a clean and comfortable dining experiences at these unique Singapore style places.
