Upgraded centre will have more seating capacity and improved facilities
Singapore, 31 May 2012 – Blk 75 Toa Payoh Lorong 5 Food Centre will undergo upgrading from 1 June 2012 onwards under the National Environment Agency’s (NEA) Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme (HUP). Patrons and nearby residents can look forward to a more pleasant and hygienic environment to fulfil their dining needs when the centre reopens for business in January 2013.
The upgraded centre will see an increase in seating capacity with the number of tables and seats being increased from 58 to 112 and 342 to 460 respectively. Cooked food stalls will be equipped with new mechanical exhaust systems to improve the ventilation within the centre. Public toilet facilities will also be upgraded and will incorporate child-friendly features.
An extension canopy will also be installed along the perimeter of the centre to provide patrons with better shelter during heavy downpours. In addition, the redesigned exterior will feature a fresh and modern look aimed at enhancing the festivity and vibrancy of the upgraded centre.
Other key aspects of the programme include improvements to the electrical, plumbing and sanitary systems, provision of roller shutters and new signboards for all cooked food stalls, as well as the installation of new fans and light fittings.
The NEA currently manages 107 hawker centres. To date, 98 hawker centres have been upgraded under the HUP. Some of the hawker centres currently undergoing upgrading include Blk 85 Bedok North Street 4 and Blk 16 Bedok South Road.
