Numerical Weather Forecasts
The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model is the next-generation mesoscale numerical weather prediction (NWP) model. It is jointly developed by the National Centre for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and several universities from USA. The model is continually being enhanced with improvements in computing power and scientific understanding of weather processes.
MSD has adapted the WRF Model for the Southeast Asia region, with two runs daily using the high resolution data from NCEP Global Forecast System as input. The model forecasts are experimental and serve as a guide in weather forecasting.
The following WRF Model forecasts of surface wind and rainfall are updated daily by 0200UTC (10am SGT). Model updates may occasionally be affected due to various factors.
