Local Recycling Facilities

Most of the recyclable items are recovered from the industrial sectors. Industrial waste is easier to recycle because it is more homogenous. Recovery of industrial wastes for recycling includes ferrous and non-ferrous metals, papers, plastics, glass, tyres, horticultural waste, used copper slag, wood waste, electronic equipment, etc. Currently, most of the recyclables are exported overseas for recycling. Some of them are sent to local recycling facilities for the conversion into value-added and marketable recycled products.

Examples of recycling facilities are as follows:

  1. Recycling of food waste
M/s Eng Cheong Leong Agri Chem Pte Ltd, located at Benoi Lane, reprocesses soya bean waste, spent grains and spent yeast to animal feed.

  2. Recycling of metals
M/s NatFerrous Pte Ltd, located at Tanjong Kling Road, collects scrap ferrous and non-ferrous metals from the waste traders. In addition, ferrous metals present in waste and disposed of at the incineration plants are recovered by magnetic separation from incineration ash and sold to the steel mill.

  3. Recycling of electronic waste
M/s Cimelia Resource Recovery Pte Ltd, located at Tuas Avenue 2, recovers precious metals from electronic waste.

  4. Recycling of used copper slag
M/s JPL Concrete Products Pte Ltd, located at Jurong Pier Road, recycles used copper slag generated from grit blasting activities in shipyards to recycled copper slag and paving bricks.

M/s Bee Joo Industries Pte Ltd, located at Sungei Kadut Street 6, recycles used copper slag for ship blasting. In addition, the company recycles horticultural waste into compost.

  5. Recycling of wood waste
M/s LHT Holdings Limited, located at Sungei Kadut Street 1, recycles wood wastes such as wooden pallets, cases and crates to 'technical wood' products such as tables and doors, flooring and building materials and new wooden pallets and crates.

  6. Recycling of horticultural waste
M/s Kiat Lee Landscape and Building Pte Ltd, located at the Sarimbun Recycling Park at Lim Chu Kang Road, recycles horticultural waste into compost.

  7. Recycling of construction and demolition waste
M/s Hock Chuan Hong Waste Management Pte Ltd, located at the Sarimbun Recycling Park at Lim Chu Kang Road, provides waste management services to the construction industry. The collected construction debris will be segregated into valuable metal, paper, wood and hardcores.  It will also have in-house quality control and R&D programmes to assist in its production of hardcores to pre-cast concrete for the construction of road kerbs and drains.

M/s Sembwaste Pte Ltd, located at the Sarimbun Recycling Park at Lim Chu Kang Road, recovers metal, wood, paper and concrete aggregates from the construction and demolition waste.
