Waste and Resource Management Department
The Waste and Resource Management Department (WRMD) plans, develops and manages refuse disposal facilities. It also formulates policies and implements programmes to promote waste minimisation and recycling in order to reduce the amount of waste disposed of at waste-to-energy plants and Semakau Landfill. This complements the key strategy of cost effective and efficient disposal of waste in land-scarce Singapore.
As part of this role, it operates and maintains waste-to-energy incineration plants at Tuas and Tuas South, as well as Semakau Landfill and Tuas Marine Transfer Station.
The department also serves as a regulator, regulating refuse collection for the domestic & trade premises and the disposal facilities. It licenses waste collectors, disposal facilities and enforces against illegal dumping.
